Why Do We Struggle to Let Go?

What are you clinging to at this moment? A painful memory? A toxic relationship? A career that doesn’t speak to you anymore?

We all do this. We hold on tight to what we know, despite its pain. It also feels like a risk, a leap into the unknown. But what if the unknown is not a threat… but a gift?

Letting go is not about losing — it’s about clearing space. Space for peace. Space for growth. Room for the life you’ve been quietly dreaming of. But how do we start? How do we release when all within us shrieks, “Grip on harder!”

The answer lies in ancient wisdom.

The Bhagavad Gita: Surrender of the results of your actions

The timeless wisdom of detachment and action in the Bhagavad Gita In Chapter 2 Verse 47, Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna:

You are entitled to your actions, but never to their fruits.

Meaning: Do what you can, but don’t worry about the outcomes.

Think about it. It’s like how much suffering do we create through attachment to outcomes? We want control. We want guarantees. The instant we relinquish the need for certainty, we liberate ourselves from unnecessary suffering.

Instead of worrying about how things are supposed to go, apply yourself to what you can control: your approach, your focus and your attitude.

You find a fundamental truth when you let go of outcomes:

👉 Releasing control does not equate to abandoning ship. It means trusting in the process.

The Quran: Trust That You Are Stronger Than You Think

So let’s look at the Quran, How Allah mentions in Suarh Al-Baqarah (2:286):

“Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.”

This verse is a reminder: The challenges you’re going through are not designed to destroy you. They are meant to shape you.

Consider this: Just like a muscle weakens without resistance, your life’s troubles are flexing you into a stronger version of yourself.

But here’s the catch: You have to release what’s breaking you to create space for what builds you.

God knows your strength, even when you don’t. And when you let go of fear and trust in His understanding, you discover a peace that can’t be shaken.

👉 As you release, you trust God, higher power, whatever is greater than you, that you are taken care of.

Releasing to the Pause of the Bible — For Real Rest

Now let’s turn to the Bible where we find a powerful invitation from Jesus in Matthew 11:28:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Think about that. You don’t have to bear it all yourself. Letting go is not rigid detachment — it’s throwing off the burdens you were never meant to carry.

In order to be productive rested, we often confuse rest with weakness. But real rest — emotional and spiritual and mental — takes wisdom. It means knowing when to let go of what’s too heavy and let grace take the wheel.

👉 Giving up and letting go are two different things. It’s about choosing peace not exhaustion.

The Beauty of Releasing: What You Lose When You Hold On

When you finally relinquish what’s not serving you, you’re not just saying goodbye — you’re saying hello.

✨ You are opening the door to new opportunities.

✨ You’re letting in freedom.

✨ You’re allowing a new beginning.

Think of a cluttered room. You can’t make room for something new and beautiful until you remove the old, broken furniture.

But it begins with a single decision. Your choice.

How You Can Start to Let Go (Even When It Seems Impossible)

Not sure where to begin? Here’s a simple roadmap:

Step 1: Identify What’s Holding You Back

Pause and ask yourself: What is lifting you? What are you scared to let go of? The first step towards change is awareness.

Step 2: Step Back (Little by Little)

You don’t need to release everything at once. Perhaps today, you recognize the hurt. Tomorrow, you begin a small step toward freedom.

Step 3: Trust the Process

Write yourself these powerful reminders:

You don’t control all the results. (Gita)

You are capable of dealing with change. (Quran)

You don’t have to shoulder this burden alone. (Bible)

Every day, choose faith over fear. Instead of resisting, choose release.

You are free, waiting for you. The only question is:

👉 Are you ready to let go?
